Tetrahymena as a production platform for malaria vaccine candidates

The close kinship of our production organism Tetrahymena to the malaria parasite Plasmodium causes a lot of similarities in the cell structure, the genome and the expressed proteins. This and the high biological safety of our expression system predestines Cilian for the production of malaria vaccine candidates.

 

 

 

 

 

Potential malaria vaccine candidates were produced using the CIPEX system.

Following the production of a GPI-anchored malaria antigen, (paper link) further malaria proteins were produced and were provided for the co-operation partners for following analyses as a part of an EU-funded project.
